An ideal circuit to combine the passion for diving and the discovery of Costa Rica. This route has been designed to allow you to explore the most beautiful and most famous underwater treasures of Costa Rica. You will visit Isla del Caño near the Osa Peninsula, the islands of Manuel Antonio and the depths of the Gulf of Papagayo.

TRAVEL BOOK

Day 1: Juan Santamaria Airport - San José

Welcome to Costa Rica ! Reception at the Juan Santamaria International Airport near San José, at 1150 meters above sea level in the heart of the Central Valley.


First contact with Costa Rica, your private driver will give you your travel documents and will take you to your hotel.



Night at Grano de Oro Hotel.

Day 2: San José - Juan Santamaria Airport - Drake Airport - Drake Bay

Transfer to the international airport 2 hours prior to the departure time of your domestic flight.
You will take a domestic flight between San Jose and Drake Bay, and arrive to the little air field in Drake Bay
Arrival at Drake Bay's air field, shuttle to your hotel.

Day 3: Isla del Caño (Corcovado National Park) - Drake Bay

Day to discovery Isla del Caño, a formely sacred place for the Diquis, precolumbus indians.
You will dive twice at Isla del Caño, one of the best diving spot in Costa Rica. Dolphins, whales and rays live together in these warm waters.
Return to the hotel in the afternoon, by boat.
Food included (Lunch box and Diner at the lodge).

Day 4: Corcovado National Park - Station La Sirena (Corcovado National Park) - Drake Bay


Early in the morning, be ready for a full day of exploration of the Corcovado National Park which is considered as the treasure of the wet tropical reserves. You will stroll by boat and by foot through the biggest wet tropical forest of the American Pacific coastline with waterfalls and crystal water pools on the walking paths of San Pedrillo.

You will have the opportunity to observe a great variety of birds including the harpy and the scarlet macaw. This is also the better place to have the chance to see jaguars and tapirs on the beach at dusk.



Lunch included (lunch box).

Day 5: Drake Bay - Sierpe - Manuel Antonio


About 1h30 navigating through the heart of the Mangrove to go to Sierpe.

This road follows the coast until the Manuel Antonio, a wonderful park that owes its name to a spanish conquistador. Sport fishing and palm oil production are higly developped in this area. You will have the opportunity to stop on the beach along the way, near Uvita or Dominical.
You will arrive at the hotel where the rest of the day is free.

Day 6: Manuel Antonio

Half a day to explore the waters of the twelve islands off Manuel Antonio (depending on weather conditions). You will dive with your guide who will take you to see octopuses, lobsters and with a little luck, you will cross the path of marine turtles and coral sharks.

Note: activity subject to weather conditions; 3 persons minimum.

Day 7: Manuel Antonio - Papagayo Gulf

Free time to enjoy the many attractions of the region.
Then departure to Liberia, the capital of Guanacaste, continuing to the Pacific coast.
Then, transfer your ocean side hotel. End of the day free to relax on the beach.

Day 8: Isla Catalina - Papagayo Gulf

Admire the many species during this underwater adventure. You can come across rays, huge schools of striped white tips, eagle rays, white tip sharks, schools of barracudas and seahorses.

Note 1: 2 dives, over 30 meters deep.
Note 2: The best time of the year for this dive is from April to November.

Day 9: Papagayo Gulf


Relax on the beaches of Guanacaste. Protected from the wind by the highlands, where turquoise waters blend with white sand. Many excursions are offered in the Guanacaste province, even to neighboring Nicaragua. Check with your hotel.

Day 10: Isla Murcielago - Papagayo Gulf

The Islas Muercielagos biological reserve is an amazing destination to discover the depths of the Pacific Ocean.

During the trip to the islands, it is not uncommon to see dolphins and whales, schools of
barracudas and pacific sting rays,. White tip sharks are also common residents of these waters so rich in pelagic fauna. But the most typical and atractive fish of the area is the bull shark (Tiburón Toro or Carcharinus leucas); this magnificent animal will change your idea about the bad reputation that these predators have. In fact, they are rather shy, elusive and whithout much interest in divers.

Note 1: 2 dives over 30 meters deep.
Note 2: The best time of year for this dive is from April to November.

Day 12: Papagayo Gulf - Juan Santamaria Airport

Morning departure to join San Jose.
Three hours before departure you will need to return your rental vehicle and take the schuttle to the airport for your return flight.

IMPORTANT: depending on the time of your international flight, provide a night in San Jose the day before departure
