Day 1: Juan Santamaria Airport - Alajuela

Welcome to Costa Rica ! Reception at the Juan Santamaria International Airport near San José, at 1150 meters above sea level in the heart of the Central Valley.


First contact with Costa Rica, your private driver will give you your travel documents and will take you to your hotel.



Night at the Tacacori Ecolodge.

Day 2: San José - Pacuare River

You will leave San Jose early in the morning, will pass through the impressive Braulio Carrillo National Park. After a hearty typical breakfast, you will leave for some rafting on the Rio Pacuare.

The Class III rapids of the first day welcome you to the charm of the Pacuare gorge in the heart of primary rainforest. Before making a delicious and plentiful picnic, enjoy a walk through the jungle leading to a waterfall and a natural pool. By early afternoon, you will arrive at the lodge where you can relax , walk or rest.

Day 3: Pacuare River

Free time for the day to explore as you feel the surroundings of the lodge. It is the perfect departure point for many treks at the heart of the nature where you will be able to observe the local flora. Other tracks lead to thousands of falls dropping in the tropical forest. You will have the chance to spot tropical birds and to continuously encounter the wild life in this protected environment.

Day 4: Pacuare River - Siquirres - Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui

After waking up at the sounds of the tropical forest and of the Rio Pacuare rapids, you will enjoy a tasteful breakfast. Then leave for a new day of white water adventure. You will have a few stops in the journey to visit crystal water pools and natural falls. Lunch on the shores of the Pacuare.

In the afternoon you will go back on the road and leave by bus for your transfer to Siquirres.

Then you'll head to Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui, an old river port from the colonial era. The jungle of the region are the habitat of tapirs, sloths, monkeys and other animals.

Note: 1h30 drive

At nightfall you will go and explore the tropical forest when most of the animals start to appear. With a specialist naturalist guide you will encounter numerous insects, frogs, some nocturnal mammals and maybe snakes. Before being totally captivated by the forest melody you will be back to your hotel.


Night at the Selva Verde Lodge.

Day 5: Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui

Discover the wonders and secrets of one of the Man´s favourite food, the chocolate.
After crossing the hanging bridge that will take you to the cocoa plantation (Theobroma cocoa) you will discover the natural and cultural history of the cocoa tree.
In the plantation you will learn about the process in which the cocoa is transformed and will taste the indigenous style chocolate drink and chocolate bars made with organic cocoa.
At the end of the tour you can buy organic chocolate made by the women association of Amazilla of the Caribean of the New Village of Guacimo.



Free time for the day to enjoy the area and the many activities available as you feel. You can go for a rafting session on the Rio Sarapiqui or discover a plantation of coffee, pineapple or palm tree heart.


At dawn, go and watch the wildlife during a night tour.

Day 6: Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui - Arenal Volcano



Free morning in the surroundings of Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui. Then leave for the area of La Fortuna and its impressive perfectly conical shaped Arenal volcano (1,650 meters).




Note: approximately 2 hours driving.



In the late afternoon, treat yourself to a relaxing time in the spa resort of Ecotermales in an intimate setting. The warm waters of "Eco Spa" come directly from the hot springs of the Arenal volcano, without ever coming into contact with the magma. This exceptional site is preserved from mass tourism, what makes it a very peaceful place.



Night at Lomas del Volcán Hotel.

Day 7: Arenal Volcano


Half day kayaking in the middle of the Arenal lake to paddle on the biggest artificial lake of Costa Rica. The lake was formed in 1974 to provide the country with hydroelectrical energy.
While learning the basic kayak skills, you will admire various landscapes with the Arenal volcano. During the tour you will also have the chance to watch numerous birds such as martin-fishermans, anhingas, cormorants or to hear or glimpse shouting monkeys.

Half-day to browse around the Arenal National Park by quad. The opportunity to experience the breathtaking views of the volcano in an entertaining way and full of adventure. You will follow a path through large pastures before the first break to enjoy a snack. The guide will explain the geological and human history of the volcano. Then, you will take the way back to the main station.

Guarantied thrill in total safety... You will explore the top of the trees by sliding through a high wire course, from a platform to the other. The course consists in 18 platforms and 15 suspended cables at the top of the forest!

Day 8: Arenal Volcano - Tenorio Volcano


A 3 kilometer path will lead you through the primary forest. In total safety you will enjoy a stunning view of the tropical vegetation and of the Arenal volcano, while crossing over 8 fixed bridges and 6 hanging bridges over the canopy.


Remember to bring walking shoes, otherwise, you will not be able to enter the park.



Departure for volcanoes Miravalles (2,028m altitude) and Tenorio (1,916m altitude). The straight road crosses the rural area of San Rafael de Guatuso.
Arrival at the hotel, a few kilometers after Bijagua, in an area of vast vegetation.

Day 9: Tenorio Volcano - Rincon de la Vieja volcano


Leave in the morning to go to the Guanacaste province, land of the Sabaneros, proud and colorful local cowboys. You may stop on the way at Las Pumas de Cañas Rescue Center, whose mission is to rehabilitate and ensure good conditions for endangered wildlife in Costa Rica, and encourage society's respect and appreciation for wildlife through these actions
After that you will arrive at the hotel in Rincon de la Vieja, set in a typical landscape of ranchs and volcanoes.

Note 1: Approximately 2 hr 30 min drive.
Note 2: The Rincon de la Vieja National Park is closed on mondays.


Staying at Hacienda Guachipelin, enjoy free access to the hot springs of the Rio Negro, located 15 minutes from the hotel, don't miss out on it!

Day 10: Rincon de la Vieja volcano


Explore on your own one or several of the three areas of the Rincon de la Vieja Park (the Cangreja, las Pailas and Santa Maria).


At the heart of this park stands the massive volcano of the same name. It is the origin of geothermal activity (make sure to spot it during hikes in las Pailas sector or Santa Maria).


You will most likely come across capuchins, howler monkeys and spider monkeys, anteaters, sloths and over 300 species of birds. The park was established in 1973 and concentrates a large amount of orchids or the "Guaria morada" (Guarianthe skinneri) which is the local flower.


Note: Cangreja and Las Pailas areas are closed on Mondays. Santa Maria area opens daily but it is more difficult to access during the rainy season.

Day 11: Rincon de la Vieja volcano - Monteverde Reserve


In the morning, departure to the Monteverde area. The reserve offers landscapes of alpine pastures in the heart of the Cordillera de Tilarán. Known worldwide for its tropical cloudy forest which helps to promote the Costa Rican ecotourism reputation, Monteverde is constituted by an extraordinary vegetation and wildlife.


Along the way, it is possible to stop at Las Pumas de Cañas Rescue Center, whose mission is to rehabilitate and ensure good conditions for endangered wildlife in Costa Rica, and to encourage society's respect and appreciation for wildlife through these actions.


Arrival at the hotel in Monteverde, near the reserve, located between 800 and 1800 meters above sea level.


Note: 4 hours driving - Las Pumas zoo is 12 USD / person.



At dusk, you will go and explore the tropical forest when most of the animals start to be active. You will see numerous insects, some owls and maybe snakes. After this complete immersion in the rain forest, you will go back to your hotel.

Day 12: Monteverde Reserve

Guarantied thrill in total safety... You will explore the top of the trees by sliding for a platform to another with cables. This high wire course consists in 14 platforms built at the top of trees and connecting a total of 3km of circuit.

Free day to enjoy the region from the wide variety of possible activities: you can take a hike in the reserve Monteverde and Santa Elena, then try the adventure of the treetops suspended on wires above canopy, discover the jewels of the rainforest at Selvatura Park, visit La Lechería, a cheese factory created in 1953 by Quakers from the United States, and of course go in search of the mystical Quetzal.

Day 13: Monteverde Reserve - Manuel Antonio


Today, you will leave for the pacific coast. If weather allows it, you can stop at the Río Tarcoles bridge to see the crocodiles. You will then reach Quepos, known for its great fishing and palm oil production.

You can also visit the Carara National Park which, despite its small size (52 km2), it is one of the country's parks with the biggest biodiversity. The bird population is impressive, especially the red aras, migrating twice a day between the forest and the surrounding coastal mangroves.

You will arrive at the hotel in Manuel Antonio, known for its beautiful national park.

Day 14: Manuel Antonio National Park - Manuel Antonio



Today, head to Manuel Antonio National Park, its stunning beaches, coral reef and great fauna and flora variety. Swim in the cristal clear waters, relax on the thin sand beaches, walk in the tropical vegetation...


This is the perfect place to watch numerous animals such as sloths or squirrel monkeys.



Note 1: We suggest you to go to the park for the day with a pic-nic to really enjoy it.

Note 2: The park is closed on Mondays.


Free day to enjoy the surroundings wether is by the ocean or in the jungle: swim in light blue waters, take a nap on the beach or exploring the forest… Be sure to keep an eye open to admire the numerous animal species around such as sloths and squirrel monkeys.

Free time and return to the Costa Rican capital.


Three hours before departure, return your vehicle to the Juan Santamaria Airport and connecting to international flight back .
