Day 1: Liberia Airport - Tenorio Volcano


Car rental :

Your driver will be waiting for you at Liberia International Airport in the heart of Guanacaste.
Then departure to Tenorio Volcano (1916 meters).
The road is straight and in the way, you can stop in Liberia, the White City and the capital of Guancaste.
Arrival at the hotel a few kilometers after Bijagua in between the beautiful wildlife.

Night at the Tenorio Lodge***.

Day 2: Tenorio Volcano - Arenal Volcano

Explore the Tenorio Volcano National Park. You will pass through jungle, waterfalls and natural hot springs.
You will have the chance to discover Rio Celeste which is known for its turquoise blue color (intensified with the reflexion of light) caused by the minerals contained in the water. The river contrast with the intense green tropical vegetation.
The 36 km long Rio Celeste is born at the joining point of two rivers and flows through volcanic hot and sulfur sources before dropping in a amazing waterfall.

Departure for La Fortuna home of the majestic Arenal Volcano (1635 meters).
Along the way, it is possible to stop at Las Pumas de Cañas Rescue Center, whose mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and ensure good conditions for endangered wildlife in Costa Rica, and encourage society's respect and appreciation for wildlife through these actions. Then you will be reaching the Laguna Arenal, perfect for practice Windsurf.

Day 3: Arenal Volcano

Explore in a boat the exuberant nature of Costa Rica. You will quitely go down the Rio Peñas Blancas on a kind of raft or kayak. This is an interesting adventure for nature lovers of all ages (minimum 5 years)! Throughout your way it is likely that you will cross upon different species of exotic birds, frogs, curious insects and perhaps even alligators and monkeys.




Note: Approximate navigation time of 2 hours.

- Arenal volcano National Park with an English/Spanish speaking guide.

- Watching the lava in activity in the evening.

Day 4: Arenal Volcano - Monteverde Reserve


A 3 kilometer path will lead you through the primary forest. In total safety you will enjoy a stunning view of the tropical vegetation and of the Arenal volcano, while crossing over 8 fixed bridges and 6 hanging bridges over the canopy.


Remember to bring walking shoes, otherwise, you will not be able to enter the park.



You will head to Monteverde, which reserve offers alpine pastures landscapes in the heart of the Tilaràn cordillera. Monteverde is worldly famous for its cloudy tropical forest which contributes to the reputation of Costa Rica as an ecotouristic country, it also shelters extraordinary fauna and vegetation.
On the way, you can enjoy the stunning view on the Arenal lake, that actually looks like a fresh water sea. You will pass Tilaran, Quebrada Grande and Cabaceras before reaching the clouds forest typical of the area and finally Santa Elena.

Note: approximately 3 hour-drive.

At dusk, you will go and explore the tropical forest when most of the animals start to be active. You will see numerous insects, some owls and maybe snakes. After this complete immersion in the rain forest, you will go back to your hotel.

Day 5: Monteverde Reserve



Guarantied thrill in total safety... You will explore the top of the trees by sliding for a platform to another with cables. This high wire course consists in 18 platforms built at the top of trees and connecting a total of 5km of circuit.

Day 6: Monteverde Reserve - Rincon de la Vieja volcano

In the morning, departure to the province of Guanacaste, land of the sabaneros, proud and colorful local cowboys.
Along the way, it is possible to stop at Las Pumas de Cañas Rescue Center, whose mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and ensure good conditions for endangered wildlife in Costa Rica and encourage society's respect and appreciation for wildlife through these actions.
Then, you will go to your hotel in Rincon de la Vieja, in a typical setting between ranches and volcanoes.

Note 1: About 4 hour drive
Note 2: Rincon de la Vieja National Park is closed on Mondays (except Santa Maria area which remains open)

Day 7: Rincon de la Vieja volcano


Explore on your own one or several of the three areas of the Rincon de la Vieja Park (the Cangreja, las Pailas and Santa Maria).


At the heart of this park stands the massive volcano of the same name. It is the origin of geothermal activity (make sure to spot it during hikes in las Pailas sector or Santa Maria).


You will most likely come across capuchins, howler monkeys and spider monkeys, anteaters, sloths and over 300 species of birds. The park was established in 1973 and concentrates a large amount of orchids or the "Guaria morada" (Guarianthe skinneri) which is the local flower.


Note: Cangreja and Las Pailas areas are closed on Mondays. Santa Maria area opens daily but it is more difficult to access during the rainy season.

Day 8: Rincon de la Vieja volcano - Peñas blancas - Granada

Journey by road to Liberia, then continue to the border at Peñas Blancas, return your rental vehicle.
Border crossing.

Note 1: 2 to 3 hour drive to the border
Note 2: There is a tax in Nicaragua 16 usd to date
Note 3: Rental car drop off instructions will be given to you later.


Drop off of your rented car (location and terms to be determined at a later stage).



Continue on the road towards your hotel in Granada.
End of day free to stroll in the colonial city.

Day 9: Granada

Day at leisure to explore the city of Granada, a jewel of the Spanish colonial empire in Central America. The emblem of the city is the cathedral with saffron yellow facades. The invasion of the country by mercenary William Walker in XIX century brought widespread destruction in the city, including the cathedral, which was rebuilt. Fortunately, many colonial houses remain, you can recognize them thanks to their warm colors and interior courtyards, which are essential for temperature control.

Day 10: Granada - Ometepe Island


The 10th day you will head to Rivas and embark on the ferry to Ometepe Island, where you will spend the night.

Note: 1:30 hour drive plus 1 hour boat ride
Note 2: Ferry to be booked the day before and to pay directly (2 USD pp + 25 USD per vehicle) - contact us.

As guests of the hotel Charco Verde, you have access to the reserve of the same name whose entrance is situated next to the hotel. Feel free to enjoy.

Day 11: Ometepe Island

Free day to enjoy the many activities available on the island of Ometepe. We recommend a stroll in the footsteps of petroglyphs, mysterious footprints in stone made by the Chorotega Natives in many places of the island, they are more than 1500 years old. You can also go kayaking for half a day in the mangroves from the Istian isthmus.To swim the ideal is to go on foot, bicycle or taxi to the Ojo de agua, a natural swimming pool with transparent and thermal waters. Finally, for hiking enthusiasts, we recommend to go to the San Ramon waterfall starting on right from your hotel.

Day 12: Ometepe Island - Peñas blancas - Tamarindo


Early in the morning, you will be back on the road to Costa Rica.
Drive to Moyogalpa to embark on the ferry to Rivas. Then drive to Peñas Blancas and the Costa Rican border.

Note: 1 hour boat ride
Note 2: Ferry to pay directly (2 USD pp + 25 USD per vehicle)
Note 3: Don't forget Panama's exit fees

Free day to visit the Tamarindo area.
