The Talamanca cordillera contains many summits of more than 3000 meters, Chirripó being the highest with 3,820 meters. The stunning La Amistad international Park, the biggest in the country, is also in this area, and is still populated by the Central America's big cats such as the jaguar or the puma. South of the Cerro de la Muerte, San Gerardo de Dota is a small rural village known for its view of the mountains and for the presence for the bright Quetzal. From 2000 to 3000 meters of elevation, the Los Quetzales Park contains lots of streams, lakes and many trekking options.
