You will find in Costa Rica all the necessary elements to spend a great vacation practicing your passion: golf. The country is considered one of the best destinations to practice golf, not only because of the quality of the courses but also because of the spectacular beauty of the environment. Some courses have been designed by famous architects like Mike Young or Ted Robinson.
History of golf in Costa Rica
The first golf course of the country was created in 1944 in Cariari. The “Costa Rica Country Club” used to be a 9 holes course and was extended to an 18 holes in the 70’s. Since then, there is about 25 courses throughout the country: 5 18-holes and around 20 9-holes. The last one is the magnificent Four Seasons green in the Guanacaste: a wonderful view over the Papagayo Gulf and the Pacific Ocean from almost the entire course… We love it!

THE CENTRAL VALLEY
CARIARI COUNTRY CLUB – 18 HOLES – PAR: 71
The Cariari Country Club was created in May 1971 and is composed of a hotel, a residential complex and a shopping mall, stretching on the 53 hectares of the property. It is located 7 kilometers west of San José, in the heart of the mountains and the forests and close to a lake. Some of the best golfers in the world have played on the Cariari Country Club greens, which hosted big events like the PGA Tour, the PGA European tour and the PGA American Tour. Designed by the famous architect George Fazio, the course has 18 holes. The course is very pleasant but you will need to use several clubs because of the sloping and narrow fairway.
PARQUE VALLE DEL SOL – 18 HOLES – PAR: 72
Parque Valle del Sol, in Santa Ana, is located in the central highlands. The Parque Valle del Sol has 18 holes (each offering an average of 4 or 5 tee positions), making the course a challenge for professionals, while remaining friendly and enjoyable for the less experienced. This course was the first one to open to public and has a golf academy providing classes for children, teenagers and adults.
